about

Mid 2006, after 4 years of soul-searching, we ended up with the few tracks you can hear on this... thing [too short for an album, too long for an EP so you decide what you call it]. For us, it would be both a beginning and an end.

Our mixed influences - scattered throughout the extreme music spectrum, from Gojira and Decapitated to Boards of Canada and Sigur Ros - had helped us give shape to something we increasingly felt we could call our own style. Yet as we were all 20 or below, that collective discovery perfectly coincided with the need to start building our respective life paths.

Next thing we knew, we were going our separate ways. Proud and frustrated, and obviously full of shit when we promised we'd reform in a near future. When we didn't, we started wondering about sharing the record anyway. When we didn't, we quit talking about it altogether [except when too much booze was involved, but it doesn't count].

Until today. Almost nine years later. And none of us knows why. Probably our way to put this whole thing behind us for good. Which means we're still proud. And full of shit. Just way less frustrated.

So no, we don't expect anything from this outrageously late release. No band reunion, no concerts, and certainly no money nor fame. Whatever happens now is just bonus. Only thing we need is share this part of ourselves with you. And it feels really good.

Thanks for listening. We were Saïkon from Marseille, France.

On the track "Psycho[pa]therapy", any vocal part that sounds closer to an actual vocal part than to a combine harvester or a pig squeak is courtesy of our friend Matt, lead singer in [still alive and kicking] band Malakwa from Marseille.

As to the hang drum part on the outro of "Nymph", it was created and recorded on the spot by some Guillaume guy, a friend of our lead singer's at the time. Though we would love to thank him, we have no reliable way of remembering who he was, let alone getting in touch with him. So as the saying goes, if you hear anything...

about

Saïkon Marseille, France

Our music used to be labeled "open death metal". We no longer exist as a band, yet we still have one strong collective bond. And that would be procrastination. So we're proud to finally share our first and only record with the world, nine years after its making. If you like it, feel free to get in touch. Although if we were you, we definitely wouldn't. ... more
